Our aim is to provide newly qualified doctors with an exciting and diverse two year Foundation Programme based in Macclesfield Hospital. Our Foundation trainees leave as strong individuals confident in their ability to deal with the acutely unwell patient and ready to take on specialty training.
We provide a range of balanced rotations ensuring a strong training foundation for the trainee in a friendly and nurturing environment. The Foundation doctors at Macclesfield are fully supported through the 2 year programme with lots of personal attention on the shop floor, excellent pastoral care and portfolio support. We aim to give plenty of hands-on experience enabling the development of skills of leadership and independent practise whilst under active supervision by seniors.
The Foundation Programme at Macclesfield is part of Health Education North West Foundation School and comprises a pre-approved series of six 4 month placements in a variety of specialties and healthcare settings. The rotations give excellent exposure to both acute unwell and community patients.
Teaching is provided in the Foundation teaching program, day to day by seniors, specialty meetings and in the Simulation Suite. There are plenty of opportunities for Foundation trainees to get involved with delivering teaching, audit, presentations and quality improvement projects.
In a recent GMC National Training Survey, our Foundation Training Programme was ranked third in the country for overall satisfaction by our Foundation Year 1 trainees.
